Getting Started with ChartBlocks

Learn how to transform your data from tedious spreadsheets into beautiful, shareable graphics without coding a single line.

Getting Started:

ChartBlocks is a powerful, free data visualization tool within the Ceros ecosystem designed to take your data from spreadsheets to shareable graphics, with no coding needed!

To get started, log in or create your free ChartBlocks account. Once you’re in, select the “Create your first chart” option to either manually enter or upload your data. For the sake of this video, we’ll use some sample data located here.

Selecting series:

With your data added, select the type of chart you’d like to create, then set up its “Series.” “Series” are the different data sets that will be visualized within your chart.

For example, in this “Olympic Medals by Country” chart we’re creating, we’ll want the X-axis of the graph to include the list of country names and the Y-axis to include the number of medals each country has earned. Since there are three types of medals, we’ll need three “Series,” one for each medal type. So, for Series 1, which we’ll title “Gold,” we’ll need to set “Column A,”  which includes the country names, as the X-axis. Then we’ll select “Column B,” which consists of the gold medal data, as the Y-axis. We’ll do the same for the Silver and Bronze Medal Series as well.

With your “Series” selected, click “Next” to generate your chart.

Customizing your chart:

Now you can use the robust set of customization options to increase your chart’s visual engagement. You can start by using one of these pre-designed color palettes or jump right in using these four customization tabs.

We’ll start with the “Data” tab. Here you can adjust the visual design of the different “Series” in your chart. With our example, we’ll start with the “Gold” series and customize its color to represent the data better. If needed, you can always change the columns included within a series, and update the data itself.

Using the “Chart” tab, you can change the chart type or orientation, as well as the Bars settings, background color, Key layout, and more.

The “Dimensions” tab allows you to adjust the chart size, corner roundness, and content padding.

And finally, the “Axes” tab enables you to customize the information displayed on each of your chart’s axes. Including toggling the information on and off, altering the visual elements like the axis line, and even formatting the axis label and data points. With our example, the “Country” data points feel a little cramped, so we’ll reduce the font size to allow some breathing room.

We’ll also add an axis line on the left axis to better match the bottom. And we’ll increase the Axis scale to more accurately display the data.

Sharing:

Once you’re finished customizing your chart, you can download it in a variety of file formats, make a copy, or use the share button to generate a “Public Link” or Embed code. The Share feature also allows you to share your charts on social media.

And that’s it! Chartblocks makes it easy to create, customize, and share charts with your team and others!
